About IsleBebytheSea

About the accommmodation

IsleBebytheSea is a shepherd hut decorated with a cosy traditional Hebridean theme using  wood and tweed, in a vintage character.  Finished with your comfort in mind.

The hut was bespoke built for us in 2017. It benefits from modern comforts, hot water and of course, electricity!

We accept 2 guests maximum

Sorry no pets

Here are the details..

BEDS

IsleBebytheSea  has an open plan / studio set up –  It has 2 full size double as bunks, the bottom one is set up as a bed, the top one is set up as a snug.  There is a short ladder to access the snug.  It is indeed snug up there, very cosy, good for nestling in and reading or relaxing.  However, keep in mind it is a top bunk, so has limited room, a very close ceiling and you will need your mobility to use it!

The mattresses are hotel quality pocket sprung, the bed covers provided are 100% cotton and blankets are traditional Hebridean woven wool ‘cuibhrigs’ .

KITCHEN

IsleBebytheSea offers a bespoke crafted, fully equipped, oak topped kitchenette, baby butler sink, cookware and vintage crockery.

The kitchenette is stocked with tea and coffee – including bean grinder and cafetiere.

The kitchenette has a one electric hob plate, combi microwave, fridge freezer, toaster, kettle and slow cooker.

Cutlery and utensils are provided.

SHOWER ROOM

There is a cute little, but fully equipped WC and shower room with electric shower. One set of towels and a starting supply essential toiletries are provided.

COMS….

Mobile signal can be weak and drop. But we provide you with free fast WIFI.

If the Hebridean weather is against you, there are a T.V, DVD player, radio and books for your entertainment.

ALSO GOOD TO KNOW….

For your comfort, there is a petite, vintage drop leaf table with 2 chairs.  For relaxing, there is a pair of Parker Knoll wingback arm chairs.

Due to the open location and fierce Winters we get in the Outer Hebrides, we opted for sealed cottage style windows, these are very cosy, offer amazing, uninterrupted sea views, and are finished with Harris tweed blinds.  Inside IsleBebytheSea is dressed with local timber and is floored with engineered oak.

IsleBebytheSea is fully insulated.  For your temerature preferance;  there is a heater for when it is chilly, and a fan for the hot days.

There is under bed luggage storage available to guests.

.If you want to stay looking pristine while you stay, there is even a small size iron and board and a hair dryer.

OUTSIDE

IsleBebytheSea is sited on our wild and natural croftland, guests have their own private back lawn, lined with trees on 2 sides. Young fruit bushes are planted beside the trees, although they are seasonal, so may not be in fruit when you visit, or if they are, be warned the birds may have scoffed them first!! The wider area of our land surrounding the accommodation is full of wild flowers in summer, and cultivated with various plants.   There is an outside tap for rinsing off your outdoor gear and underseat storage by the door for wet clothing.  There is an outdoor table and seating for outside dining.  Please note this is on a primarily working croft land, used for grazing in the off season when we close the hut to guests.  It is only suitable for guest who enjoy this type of location.

LOCATION….

hut is located at the bottom of my garden on our working croft, in-front of you is approx 40 m of grazing, opening onto the shore of a seawater loch  via a private foot path.  The hut is set 50 meters away from the road, and is on a main bus route.  This is a rural location, in the North Lochs area of the Isle of Lewis.  Our location is central to Lewis and Harris, ideal for exploring the our Islands.  It is approx 15 min drive from Stornoway and 45 min drive from Tarbert, (just 30 min drive til you’re actually in Harris though). . FYI for the adventurous..We are close to the Hebridean Way route!

EXTRAS….

Beside the hut is a ‘secret garden’ with a deck in it, where we sit a ‘Lay Z Spa’ hot tub, (a rigid inflatable ‘soft tub’).  If you choose to book the hot tub, you will have private use of this while you stay.  (Hot tub water is maintained with chlorine, use will be dependent on chemical balance, which is checked daily. Hot tub use is for over 16 only. Terms of use apply to using it.)

While IsleBebytheSea is fenced off, please be aware our cats, dogs, hens and horses are near your accommodation, and the cats will likely be keen to meet you!  Our dogs are never outside loose when we have guests, but unfortunately we have noticed that on occasion, some sheep herding dogs are allowed to roam in rural villages. If you see them, know they are usually very timid and non aggressive. You will possibly see roaming sheep and deer roadside on the isle at some point.. Just to be aware as they are timid but have a tendency to run out on the road unexpectedly..

IMPORTANT!

This is primarily a working croft so sadly we are not suitably geared up for accepting young children. Sorry if this doesn’t suit your needs.  If mobility is factor you need to consider, please note the hut is accessed via 2 steps.

For everyone’s comfort and safety, the whole premises is strictly non smoking, this includes the garden, croftland and drive.

Sorry, we are not set up to accept children.

Again, we don’t accept pets, sorry about that.

Check-in 4pm -8/8.30pm, check out by 10am

Please note, this is a shepherd hut, so this type of accommodation is snug.  Your studio area is approx 2.8 x 3.5 m, (excluding the bed area and shower room).  This is generous for a shepherd hut and larger than most ‘pod type’ accommodation, but it is still small and cosy!

Keep in mind too, we are just a little hut on a working croft.. Our guest reviews are fabulous and 5*, but we never set out be a 5* destination…We just like nice things and making it a bit special here, while in keeping with our crofter lives.  So come and enjoy this happy place.
